للبرايا وهي الكتاب العزيز

للبرايا وهي الكتاب العزيز

God's adornment is an inviolable refuge from Him

God has made it a protected fortress,

For creatures, and it is the mighty Book.

It is the glorious Quran.

زبرتها لهم صفات التجلي

زبرتها لهم صفات التجلي

وبها الكل ظاهر معزوز

وبها الكل ظاهر معزوز

The attributes of self-disclosure inscribed it for them,

Its lines have revealed His attributes,

And through it everything is manifest and honored.

Through it everything is evident and honored.

زهد القوم في هواها ومالوا

زهد القوم في هواها ومالوا

للذي خلفها بها محروز

للذي خلفها بها محروز

The people renounced love of it and turned

The people have renounced their passions for it,

Toward the One behind it, protected by it.

And turned to that which lies beyond it.

زاد منهم إليه فرط اشتياق

زاد منهم إليه فرط اشتياق

وبه كل ذي اشتياق يفوز

وبه كل ذي اشتياق يفوز

Their overwhelming longing for Him grew,

Their longing for it has increased,

And through Him everyone who longs succeeds.

Through it every longing one succeeds.

زجروا العيس نحوه وأناس

زجروا العيس نحوه وأناس

قد نسوا الله مالهم تمييز

قد نسوا الله مالهم تمييز

They urged the white camels toward Him, while some people

They have admonished Jesus' people towards it,

Have forgotten God and have no discernment.

Yet some have forgotten God, lacking discernment.

زهرة العاجل التي فتنتهم

زهرة العاجل التي فتنتهم

حبها في نفوسهم مركوز

حبها في نفوسهم مركوز

The blossom of fleeting life, which beguiled them—

The flower of the fleeting world has seduced them,

Love of it is firmly planted in their souls.

Their love for it settled in their souls.

زارني من أحب والكون ليل

زارني من أحب والكون ليل

فاستبان الضيا وفكت رموز

فاستبان الضيا وفكت رموز

The one I love visited me while the universe was night;

The one I love has visited me in the dark of night,

Then the light shone forth, and symbols were deciphered.

Clarifying the hazy and unlocking symbols.

زينب المقتضى فنائي بقاها

زينب المقتضى فنائي بقاها

كل شيء لديه منها كنوز

كل شيء لديه منها كنوز

Zaynab—her abiding requires my annihilation.

Zainab's essence has made my annihilation endure,

Everything holds treasures from her.

All treasures for me lie in her.

زمزم القرب قد رميت بدلوي

زمزم القرب قد رميت بدلوي

فيه حتى امتلا الإنا والكوز

فيه حتى امتلا الإنا والكوز

The Zamzam of nearness—I have cast my bucket

I have cast my bucket into the well of intimacy,

Into it, until the vessel and the jug were full.

Filling both cups and pitcher.

زفرة بعد زفرة لفؤادي

زفرة بعد زفرة لفؤادي

كل حين ولاصطباري نشوز

كل حين ولاصطباري نشوز

My heart has sigh after sigh

Sigh after sigh escapes my heart,

At every moment, while my patience rebels.

My patience ever defiant.
