من أين للسعد ما ندري وللرازي

فيما نحاول من كشف وإبراز

From whence comes the insight of Saad and Razi

In what we attempt of analysis and demonstration

هما يقولان عن إدراك عقلهما

في الله تقييس بنيان بهنداز

They speak of the comprehension of their minds

In God, structuring edifices with plaster

من عصبةٍ واجهوا بحر الشريعة مع

دعوى النفوس فنالوا مِلْءَ أكواز

A group who confronted the sea of Sacred Law with

The claim of souls, so they obtained filled goblets

وينقل البعض عن بعض ويكنز ما

يروي فهم بين نقَّال وكناز

And some transmit from others and hoard what

Is narrated, so they are among transmitters and hoarders

حتى إذا فهموا أقوال من سلفوا

وحرروها بتطويل وإيجاز

Until when they understood the words of those before

And analyzed them with prolongation and concision

قالوا الجهابذة النقاد نحن فمن

لنا يساوي وأين البوم والبازي

The supreme critics said: we are, so who

Can equal us, and where is the owl and the buzzard

كبائع الخبز لا يدري العجين ولا

طحن الدقيق ولا نيران خباز

Like bread sellers, not knowing the dough, nor

The grinding of flour, nor the ovens of bakers

سوى التناول مع تصفيف أرغفة

والبيع للغير في شام وأهواز

Except taking up loaves with arranging

And selling to others in Syria and Ahwaz

وفاض نحن عليها البحر فامتلأت

به بواطننا من غير إعواز

And we surpassed them, so our insides were filled

By it without stint

والحق واجهنا في كل ما علمت

حواسنا ثم لم نحتج لإجهاز

And the Truth faced us in all our senses apprehended

Then we had no need of preparation

وزال لبس العمى عنا بطلعته

بنا وهم أسر إلباس وإلغاز

And the blindness of ignorance departed from us by its

Rising over us while they are prisoners of obscurity and riddles

ونحن قلنا عن الفتح المبين وعن

نطق الوجود مقالاً ليس بالخازي

And we spoke of the manifest victory and of

The speech of existence, not a vain discourse

لنا الحقيقة سر الغيب نكشفه

عن المعاني التي في طيِّ إعجاز

For us is the reality, secret of the unseen we unveil

It from the meanings that are in the folds of the miracle

بالفقر قمنا على أبواب عزة من

عنه صدرنا بتقدير وإفراز

Through poverty we stood at the doors of the Glory of Him

From whom we proceeded by ordainment and separation

كالبرق نلمع عن توجيه قدرته

مصورين به فيه بإحراز

Like lightning we gleam from the directing of His power

Depicting through it in it with obtaining

والسعد يدرك والرازي ونحوهما

جمود ما هم به كالهازل الهازي

And Saad attains and Razi and the like of them

Rigidity of what they are in, like the foolish babbler

والحق حاجبهم عنه بأنفسهم

مقيدين بألقاب وأنباز

And the Truth veils them from it by their selves

Confined by titles and high names

وأمرهم عنه ممتاز بما زعموا

وأمرنا نحن عنه غير ممتاز

And their matter from it is distinguished by what they claimed

And our matter from it is not distinguished

معلقين به في كل حالتنا

نلجا إليه بإكرام وإعزاز

Suspended by it in all our states

We resort to it with honor and exaltation

وهم يظنون ما هم فيه محض هدى

وغيره قول هماز ولماز

And they think what they are in is pure guidance

And other than it words of oscillation and blame

وعلمهم قطرة من علمنا مزجوا

بها مقالات طاغي الدين غماز

And their knowledge a drop from our knowledge they mixed

With it the discourses of the extravagant of religion, mocker

من رأي فلسفة حمقى مزخرفة

بادت بسيف من الإسلام هزهاز

From the opinion of the foolish falsified philosophy

Which perished by the sword of Islam that shook it

علم الكلام الذي باعوا به وشروا

من الكلام كثيراً بيع بزاز

The theology they sold and bought with

Much speech, sale of a grocer

وقد نهى السلف الماضون عنه وهم

لم ينتهو حيث لا يغزوهمو غازي

The predecessors indeed prohibited it, yet they

Did not refrain where there is no militaristic incursion

لو لم تكن فيه سمعياته لغدت

منه مقالاته أقوال طناز

If there were no scriptural sources in it

Its statements would become words of slanderers

ولقبوه أصول الدين حيث لهم

فيه مباحث سمعيات مجتاز

And they named it Principles of Religion, since for them

In it are scriptural probative discourses

والدين ما أصله إلا الكتاب وما

في سنة المصطفى وعداً بإنجاز

And the religion- what is its origin but the Book and what

Is in the Sunna of the Chosen One, promises of fulfillment

فخذ عن الله ما جاء الكتاب به

من العقائد مع إيمانك الشاز

So take from God what the Book came with

Of tenets, alongside your piercing faith

وما به السنة الغراء قد وردت

على مرادهما إيقان فواز

And that by which the Radiant Sunna has come

Upon their object, the certainty of conquest

تظفر بمعنى أصول الدين أجمعها

وتسترح من كلام فيه أزّاز

You obtain the meaning of the Principles of Religion, all of them

And you rest from speech wherein is discord
