1. إنما الإيمان نورٌ

    في قلوب المؤمنينْ

    Faith is nothing but light

    in the hearts of believers.

  2. وهو تصديق وإذعا

    ن وتسليم متين

    And it is assent and acquies-

    cence, and firm submission

  3. لكتاب الله والسن

    نة عن طه الأمين

    to God's Book and the Sun-

    nah from Taha, the trustworthy,

  4. غير محتاج لعقل

    أو لفهم مستبين

    needing no intellect,

    or clear understanding,

  5. أو دليل أو لشيء

    خارج عنه معين

    or proof, or anything

    outside itself to lend it aid.

  6. هو نور هو نور

    يتلالا في الكمين

    It is light, it is light,

    sparkling in what lies hidden.

  7. وهو سر الله فينا

    وطريق الصالحين

    And it is God's secret within us,

    and the path of the righteous.

  8. هو نور وكذاك ال

    شيء بالنور يبين

    It is light; and likewise the

    thing becomes clear through light.

  9. وبه لا بسواه

    كان سير المتقين

    And through it, not through anything else,

    the God-fearing made their journey.

  10. عرفوا الله وذاقوا

    وصفه في كل حين

    They knew God and tasted

    His attributes at every moment.

  11. كشفوا عن كل شيء

    كان في دنيا ودين

    They unveiled everything

    that was in worldly life and religion.

  12. لبس الإيمان منهم

    ذلك الحصن الحصين

    Faith was donned by them—

    that impregnable fortress.
