كل دينٍ إن فاتك الإسلامُ

فمحالٌ لأنه أوهامُ

Every religion, if Islam eludes you,

If you miss Islam, every religion

Is impossible, for it is illusion.

Is impossible, for it is delusions

إن من في الوجود طوعاً وكرهاً

إن من في الوجود طوعاً وكرهاً

دينهم كلهم هو الإسلام

دينهم كلهم هو الإسلام

Indeed, those in existence, willingly or unwillingly,

Indeed, whether willingly or unwillingly

The religion of them all is Islam.

The religion of all is Islam

ظهر الحي والعوالم موتى

ظهر الحي والعوالم موتى

وبدا النور والجميع ظلام

وبدا النور والجميع ظلام

The Living One has appeared, while the worlds are dead;

The Living appeared and the worlds are dead

And the Light has shone forth, while all is darkness.

The light emerged and all were darkness

وفنون التجليات علينا

وفنون التجليات علينا

كثرت والعيون عنها نيام

كثرت والعيون عنها نيام

And the forms of divine manifestation to us

And the arts of revelations descended on us

Have multiplied, while eyes sleep, oblivious to them.

Abundantly, while the eyes were sleeping

وسرت نسمة الحمى فأسرَّت

وسرت نسمة الحمى فأسرَّت

أهل ذاك العهد القديم فهاموا

أهل ذاك العهد القديم فهاموا

And a breeze from the sanctuary wafted, gladdening

The breeze of passion blew, so it captivated

The people of that ancient covenant, so they wandered in rapture.

The people of that ancient era, so they were inflamed

يا إشارات من أحب رويداً

يا إشارات من أحب رويداً

منك في القلب صبوةٌ وغرام

منك في القلب صبوةٌ وغرام

O signs of the one I love, be gentle!

O gestures from the Beloved gently

From you come yearning and passion in the heart.

In my heart rapture and passion from you

رحت منها سكران لا القوم قوم

رحت منها سكران لا القوم قوم

في عيوني ولا الخيام خيام

في عيوني ولا الخيام خيام

I went away drunk on them: the people were not people

I went from them intoxicated, not people are people

In my eyes, nor were the tents tents.

In my eyes, nor are the tents, tents

سلمت حين أسلمت خطراتي

سلمت حين أسلمت خطراتي

وعليها من السلام سلام

وعليها من السلام سلام

My passing thoughts found safety when they submitted,

I surrendered when I surrendered my thoughts

And upon them is peace from the One who is Peace.

And upon them, peace from peace

والذي في قلوبنا أوثان

والذي في قلوبنا أوثان

والذي في عيوننا أصنام

والذي في عيوننا أصنام

And what is in our hearts is idols,

That which is in our hearts are idols

And what is in our eyes is graven images.

And that which is in our eyes are icons

ووراء الجميع محض وجود

ووراء الجميع محض وجود

هم على وجهه الجميل قتام

هم على وجهه الجميل قتام

And beyond all is pure Being;

And behind everyone is pure existence

They are dust upon His beautiful face.

Veiled by His beautiful face

وهو مشهودنا وشاهدنا في

وهو مشهودنا وشاهدنا في

شاننا حيث يقظة ومنام

شاننا حيث يقظة ومنام

And He is what we witness and our witness in

He is our witnessed and our witness in

Our state, whether in wakefulness or sleep.

Our state, whether awake or asleep

وأتم الأمور أنك ثوب

وأتم الأمور أنك ثوب

بك تختال غادة وغلام

بك تختال غادة وغلام

And the most perfect of things is that you are a garment,

And the perfect matter is that you are a garment

In you a graceful maiden and a youth walk proudly.

With which beauty and youth preen

وله منك كيف ما شاء حال

وله منك كيف ما شاء حال

وله منك كيف شئت مقام

وله منك كيف شئت مقام

And He has from you a state as He wishes;

And He does with you however He wills

And He has from you a station as you wish.

And for Him from you however state He wants

وفؤاد المحب إن هام وجداً

وفؤاد المحب إن هام وجداً

في المعاني فإنه لا يلام

في المعاني فإنه لا يلام

And the lover's heart, if it wanders in ecstasy

And if the heart of the lover swoons ecstatically

Among meanings, is not to be blamed.

In the meanings, then he is not blamed

ولقد جاء بالجميع ركون

ولقد جاء بالجميع ركون

وانقياد إليه واستلام

وانقياد إليه واستلام

And indeed, all have been brought by reliance,

And He has brought about in all tranquility

And by submission to Him, and by surrender.

And submission to Him and acceptance
