كل مصنوع بمن قد صنعَهْ

ليس يدري حطه أورفعَهْ

ليس يدري حطه أورفعَهْ

Every made thing, concerning the one who made it,

Everything is made by its maker

Knows neither his lowering nor his raising.

It knows not whether its maker has honoured or degraded it

واذكروا لي فرد مصنوع له

واذكروا لي فرد مصنوع له

صانع يعرف من قد صنعه

صانع يعرف من قد صنعه

And name me a single made thing that has

Name me one thing made that knows

A maker and knows who made it.

Who has made it

مع أن الصانع المخلوق مع

مع أن الصانع المخلوق مع

كل مصنوع حدوث جمعه

كل مصنوع حدوث جمعه

Though the created maker, together with

Though the created maker is with

Every made thing, is joined by temporal origination.

Every thing made, their gathering occurred through origination

فقديم صانع مصنوعه

فقديم صانع مصنوعه

حادث كيف يعاني طمعه

حادث كيف يعاني طمعه

The Maker, then, is beginningless; His handiwork

So how can the recent made

Is newly arisen—how can it pursue its ambition?

Covet to know its Eternal Maker?

يرتجي يعرفه وهو له

يرتجي يعرفه وهو له

خالق عن دركه قد ردعه

خالق عن دركه قد ردعه

It hopes to know Him, although He is its

He hopes to know Him yet He has

Creator, who has barred it from comprehending Him.

Prevented him, driving him back

إن هذا الكون مصنوع له

إن هذا الكون مصنوع له

يعرف الله وإن كان معه

يعرف الله وإن كان معه

This universe, His handiwork, does not

Surely this universe is made by One

Know God, even though He is with it.

Who knows God though he be with it

ذلك الله الذي قد صنع ال

ذلك الله الذي قد صنع ال

عبد مع أفعاله وابتدعه

عبد مع أفعاله وابتدعه

That is God, who has made the

That God who made every

Servant, together with his actions, and originated him.

Servant with his deeds and originated him

والذي في علمنا مع علمنا

والذي في علمنا مع علمنا

صنعة الله لضيق وَسِعَه

صنعة الله لضيق وَسِعَه

And whatever is within our knowledge, and our knowledge too,

And Who in our knowledge and with our knowledge

Is God's handiwork, for limitation has encompassed it.

Made us though restricted in capacity

وجميع الكون من صنعته

وجميع الكون من صنعته

وابتدا كلَّ فتى واخترعه

وابتدا كلَّ فتى واخترعه

And the entire universe is of His making,

And the whole universe is of His making

And He originated every youth and brought him into being.

And every youth began and devised it

والذي تعرف منه أنه

والذي تعرف منه أنه

صانع نفساً به منطبعه

صانع نفساً به منطبعه

And what you know of Him is that He

And by Whom you recognise that

Fashions a soul imprinted by Him.

He is a Maker, a soul being stamped by Him

والذي تعرفه خلقٌ له

والذي تعرفه خلقٌ له

ظاهر فينا كما قد أودعه

ظاهر فينا كما قد أودعه

And whatever you know is a creation of His,

And Whom you recognise as a creation for Him

Manifest within us just as He has placed it.

Manifest among us as He has treasured within us

كلنا خلق جديد دائماً

كلنا خلق جديد دائماً

مثل قول الله كن مستمعه

مثل قول الله كن مستمعه

We are all ever a new creation,

We are all ever new creations

As God's word declares—be its listener.

Like His Word "Be" which we hear

كل عبد إن أراه فيرى

كل عبد إن أراه فيرى

وإذا أسمعه قد سمعه

وإذا أسمعه قد سمعه

Every servant sees if He makes him see;

Every servant, if I see him thus I see him

And when He makes him hear, he hears it.

And if I hear him thus I hear him

لا تقل أنزل فينا علمه

لا تقل أنزل فينا علمه

علمه فينا بحال وضعه

علمه فينا بحال وضعه

Do not say, 'He sent His knowledge down into us';

Do not say He lowered His knowledge to us

His knowledge within us He placed in a particular state.

His knowledge in us was always so placed

وهو حق وسواه باطل

وهو حق وسواه باطل

لا يساوي الحق فاترك بدعه

لا يساوي الحق فاترك بدعه

And He is the Real, and all besides Him is false,

He is The Truth, all else is falsehood

Unequal to the Real—so abandon its innovations.

The Truth equals not falsehood, leave innovations

إننا خلق له بالروح من

إننا خلق له بالروح من

أمره والأمر برق اللمعه

أمره والأمر برق اللمعه

Indeed, we are His creation, through the spirit from

We are created by Him through the Spirit

His command; and the command is a flash of lightning,

At His Command, and the command is like the flash of lightning

مثل لمح البصر الكل به

مثل لمح البصر الكل به

ظاهر عن أمره ما قطعه

ظاهر عن أمره ما قطعه

Like the blink of an eye; through Him, all

Like the twinkling of an eye, through it

Is manifest from His command, which He has not cut off.

All are manifest by His Command, nothing cutting it

فاعرف الله الذي أنت به

فاعرف الله الذي أنت به

أنت في كل زمان شرعه

أنت في كل زمان شرعه

So know God, through whom you are

So know the God by Whom

Yourself in every moment He has ordained.

You are you, in every age as He has legislated

وتحقق أنه الغيب الذي

وتحقق أنه الغيب الذي

ما له ماهيَّةٌ مجتمعه

ما له ماهيَّةٌ مجتمعه

And know for certain that He is the Unseen, who

And be sure that He is The Unseen Who

Has no composite quiddity.

Has no assembled quiddity

لا ولا كيفَ ولا أينَ ولا

لا ولا كيفَ ولا أينَ ولا

شبهٌ والعقل جهلٌ صرعه

شبهٌ والعقل جهلٌ صرعه

No—no 'how,' no 'where,' and no

Neither "how", nor "where", nor "resemblance"

Likeness—and ignorance has felled the intellect.

And the intellect is stunned into bewilderment by Him

وله الذات التي ما مثلها

وله الذات التي ما مثلها

أحد عن قيدها ممتنعه

أحد عن قيدها ممتنعه

And His is the Essence, whose like

To Him belongs the Essence which none other

Is none; it admits no confinement.

Is prevented from resembling

وله الأوصاف والأسماء من

وله الأوصاف والأسماء من

أزل الأزال لا منقطعه

أزل الأزال لا منقطعه

And His are the attributes and the names, from

And to Him belong the Attributes and the Names

The eternity of eternities, never ceasing.

From eternity, never cut off

وهي عين الذات لا تركيب في

وهي عين الذات لا تركيب في

ذاته جل كنور الشمعه

ذاته جل كنور الشمعه

And they are the very Essence; there is no composition in

And they are none other than the Essence—no composition

His Essence—exalted is He—as with a candle's light.

In His Exalted Essence, like the light of a candle

هو نور وسواه ظلمة

هو نور وسواه ظلمة

هي منه ظلمة مخترعه

هي منه ظلمة مخترعه

He is light, and all besides Him is darkness,

He is Light, all else is darkness

It is a darkness from Him, brought into being.

Which He brings out from Himself

يتجلّى حيثما شاء بها

يتجلّى حيثما شاء بها

محض تقدير له قد تبعه

محض تقدير له قد تبعه

He manifests Himself within it wherever He wills,

He manifests Himself wherever He wishes through it

By His sheer decree; He has been followed by

Sheerly at His Ordainment which He has followed

عبد رق ما له من أحد

عبد رق ما له من أحد

غير مولاه ويشكو وجعه

غير مولاه ويشكو وجعه

A slave in bondage, who has no one

A weak slave who has none

But his Master, and laments his pain.

Other than his Master, complaining of his pain

فيرى النور به لا بسوى

فيرى النور به لا بسوى

ويصلي خمسه والجمعه

ويصلي خمسه والجمعه

So he sees the light through Him, through no other,

Sees the Light through Him, not through another

And performs his five prayers and the Friday prayer.
