كن لمن يدعي الصلاح محبّاً

كن لمن يدعي الصلاح محبّاً

واحترم منه خرقة الأكياسِ

واحترم منه خرقة الأكياسِ

Be loving toward whoever claims righteousness.

Be a lover to the one who claims righteousness

And honor in him the patched cloak of the wise.

And respect the patchwork of his sackcloth

واترك الشك والتردد فيه

واترك الشك والتردد فيه

وابن أمراً على أتم أساس

وابن أمراً على أتم أساس

And abandon doubt and hesitation about him,

And leave off suspicion and hesitation about him

And establish the matter on the soundest foundation.

And build a matter on the soundest foundation

وتمسك بما ادعاه ودع عن

وتمسك بما ادعاه ودع عن

ك احتمالاً يلقيك في الأرجاس

ك احتمالاً يلقيك في الأرجاس

And hold fast to what he claims, and cast away from

And hold fast to what he claims and leave off

Yourself any supposition that would cast you into filth.

Any notion that would cast you into fetters

وتيقن أن الصلاح بحار

وتيقن أن الصلاح بحار

زاخرات والله ما شاء كاسي

زاخرات والله ما شاء كاسي

And be certain that righteousness is oceans

And be certain that righteousness is a sea

Overflowing; and God clothes whatever He wills.

With abundant riches, whatever God wills He veils

وقل الصدق منه يرجع والكذ

وقل الصدق منه يرجع والكذ

ب إلى نفسه بغير التباس

ب إلى نفسه بغير التباس

And say: his truthfulness and falsehood return

And say the truth is from Him it returns while lies

To himself, without confusion,

Return to themselves without any confusion

لا إلى من يحب وصف صلاح

لا إلى من يحب وصف صلاح

لاح للعقل منه أو للحواس

لاح للعقل منه أو للحواس

Not to whoever loves an attribute of righteousness

Not to the one who loves the description of righteousness

That appears in him to reason or the senses.

There is no comprehension of him for the mind or senses

واخز شيطانك اللعين عدو ال

واخز شيطانك اللعين عدو ال

لَه فيه وفيك بالوسواس

لَه فيه وفيك بالوسواس

And put to shame your accursed Satan, God's enemy,

And suppress your accursed devil, enemy of God

Whose whisperings concern him and you.

In him and in you with evil suggestions

وتحقق بأنه لا يُضِيعُ ال

وتحقق بأنه لا يُضِيعُ ال

لَه هذا على امرئٍ فيه راسي

لَه هذا على امرئٍ فيه راسي

And be assured that God does not let this go to waste

And ascertain that God does not let go waste

For a man who is firmly rooted in it.

This one who is steadfast in Him

وتأمل في كلب أصحاب كهف

وتأمل في كلب أصحاب كهف

وهو كلب باق من الأنجاس

وهو كلب باق من الأنجاس

And ponder the dog of the Companions of the Cave,

And reflect upon the dog of the Companions of the Cave

Though it remains a dog, one of the unclean:

While he is a dog, from the impure

كيف بالإعتقاد نال المزايا

كيف بالإعتقاد نال المزايا

دون كل الكلاب والإتياس

دون كل الكلاب والإتياس

How, through belief, it won distinctions

How through belief he attained favors

Beyond all other dogs and he-goats.

Unlike all dogs and wild beasts

تبع القومَ جاهلاً بالذي هم

تبع القومَ جاهلاً بالذي هم

فيه حباً ولم يخف من باس

فيه حباً ولم يخف من باس

It followed the people, unaware of what they

He followed the people unknowingly in what they

Were engaged in, out of love, and feared no harm.

Loved, and did not fear calamity

فرأى الله منه ذلك خيراً

فرأى الله منه ذلك خيراً

فحباه من نورهم باقتباس

فحباه من نورهم باقتباس

So God saw that as goodness on its part,

So God saw in him good

And granted it a spark from their light.

And granted him some of their light by assimilation

قرن الله ذكره معهم في

قرن الله ذكره معهم في

محكم الذكر لا بحكم قياس

محكم الذكر لا بحكم قياس

God joined its mention with theirs in

God coupled mention of him with them in

The perfected Scripture, not by a judgment of analogy.

The decisive Qur'an, not by analogy

وهو أيضا يوم القيامة في الجن

وهو أيضا يوم القيامة في الجن

نة معهم معطر الأنفاس

نة معهم معطر الأنفاس

And on the Day of Resurrection it, too, will be in Paradise,

He too on the Day of Resurrection is in Heaven

With them, its breaths perfumed.

With them, sweetening breath

فاخدم الصالحين واثبت على ما

فاخدم الصالحين واثبت على ما

أنت فيه من حبهم باحتراس

أنت فيه من حبهم باحتراس

So serve the righteous, and hold fast to what

So serve the righteous and remain steadfast in

You have of love for them, with vigilance.

What you are in, loving them and taking heed

واغرس الخير في المساكين تحصد

واغرس الخير في المساكين تحصد

يوم حشر الورى ثمار الغراس

يوم حشر الورى ثمار الغراس

And plant goodness among the needy; you will reap

And plant goodness in the poor, you will harvest

On the day creation is gathered, the fruits of your planting.

On the Day of Gathering, fruits of the saplings

واترك المنكرين تعساً لهم من

عصبة للفساد بين الناس

عصبة للفساد بين الناس

And leave the deniers—woe to them!—members of

And leave the evildoers miserable for them, what

A band devoted to corruption among people.

A gang for corruption among people
