الفعل معدوم لا يظهر بلا فاعلْ

يكون عند سعالٌ كان من ساعلْ

يكون عند سعالٌ كان من ساعلْ

An act is nonexistent; it does not appear without a doer.

The deed is naught without the doer's hand

It comes into being when a cough has come from one who coughs.

The cough betrays the lurking cause inside

فالكل مجعول فاني خلقة الجاعلْ

فالكل مجعول فاني خلقة الجاعلْ

نور الوجود به قنديلنا شاعلْ

نور الوجود به قنديلنا شاعلْ

So all is made and perishable, the Maker’s creation.

All things created come from He who planned

The light of existence—through it our lamp burns.

The lamp of being lights our souls to guide
