إمامO Imam عييتyou grew weary فيin الدنياthis world جهاداin striving
إمام عييت في الدنيا جهادا
قضيتyou passed away وماand not قضيتyou fulfilled بهاin it مراداa wish
قضيت وما قضيت بها مرادا
O Imam, you grew weary from striving in this world;
O Imam, you grew weary striving in this world;
You met your end, yet fulfilled no longing in it.
You passed away, yet fulfilled no wish in it.
وماand not أبلاكwore you down إلاexcept الهمُّsorrow داءًas a disease
وما أبلاك إلا الهمُّ داءً
وشرّand the worst الداءdisease ماthat which نالafflicted الفؤاداthe heart
وشرّ الداء ما نال الفؤادا
Nothing afflicted you but sorrow—a disease;
And no disease wore you down but sorrow;
And the worst disease is that which strikes the heart.
And the worst disease is that which afflicts the heart.
