مكرمينboth honored علىto الدنياthe world عزيزينboth dear
Indeed, the homecoming that brought two feasts,
The two who fulfilled their promise from afar
both honored and dear to the world:
Are honored in life, held in high esteem
قدومthe arrival of أكرمthe noblest منthose who فيon الأرضthe earth قاطبةًall without exception
قدومُthe arrival of فطرٍFitr, the fast-breaking feast فكاناand so both were خيرthe finest عيدينtwo feasts
the arrival of the noblest of all on earth,
Their arrival is the most generous on earth
and the arrival of Eid al-Fitr—together, the finest pair of feasts.
The arrival of Fitr thus the best two Eids
طاباboth were sweet كتفاحتيlike the two apples of خديthe two cheeks of منعمةٍa pampered woman
تورداboth turned rosy فيin بياضwhiteness بينbetween صدغينtwo temples
Both were sweet as the two apples of a pampered woman's cheeks,
My cheeks are delighted like red apples
rosy against white between two temples,
Blooming between two cheeks with charm
معقربينboth curled like scorpions كنونيlike the two nūn letters of كاتبٍa scribe نقطاboth were dotted
فقابلاso they faced منfrom مدادthe ink of المسكmusk راءينtwo rāʾ letters
scorpion-curled, like two nūns dotted by a scribe,
Like my kohl lined eyes, dots of musk
so they faced two rāʾs drawn in musk ink;
Inscribed by the pen of a scribe
أوor مقلتيthe two eyes of رشأٍa fawn فيin طرفهits gaze حورٌdark irises against bright whites
مكحولتينboth lined with kohl بسحرwith the sorcery of البابليينthe Babylonians
or a fawn's two eyes, their darkness set in white,
Or my eyelashes, a bouquet wherein is a houri
kohl-lined with the sorcery of the Babylonians;
Beautified by the magic of Babylonians
اوor كاجتماعlike the joining of الهوىlove والوصلand union فيin قرنٍa bond
لعاشقٍfor a lover حارwas bewildered بينbetween الهجرestrangement والبينand separation
or like love and union joined in a single bond,
Or like the union of love and reunion in the time
for a lover bewildered between estrangement and separation.
Of a fervent lover torn between estrangement and closeness
