تحفظ من الهجران إن كنت تقدر

يموتُ الفتى في حبه حين يهجرُ

يموتُ الفتى في حبه حين يهجرُ

Guard yourself against abandonment, if you can.

Beware of estrangement, if you have the power,

The young man dies in his love when he is forsaken.

The young man dies in his love when deserted.

فأما إذا ما بان عنه حبيبه

فأما إذا ما بان عنه حبيبه

فلا شك فيه ذلك اليوم يقبرُ

فلا شك فيه ذلك اليوم يقبرُ

But when his beloved departs from him,

But when his beloved turns away from him,

Then there is no doubt about it: that day he is buried.

No doubt on that day he will be buried.

رأيتُ أمير المؤمنين محمداً

رأيتُ أمير المؤمنين محمداً

وفي وجهه بدر المجرة يُبصرُ

وفي وجهه بدر المجرة يُبصرُ

I saw the Commander of the Faithful, Muhammad,

I saw the Commander of the Faithful, Muhammad,

And in his face the full moon of the Milky Way is seen.

In his face the full moon is seen.

همامٌ كأن الشمس تلقي شعاعها

همامٌ كأن الشمس تلقي شعاعها

على الخلق منه حين يبدو ويظهرُ

على الخلق منه حين يبدو ويظهرُ

A man of lofty resolve, as though the sun casts its radiance

Magnanimous, as if the sun casts its rays

Upon creation from him when he comes into view and appears.

Upon creation through him when he appears.
