فيin كُلِّevery عامٍyear لَناfor us وَفدٌa delegation نُجَهِّزُهُمwe equip them
في كُلِّ عامٍ لَنا وَفدٌ نُجَهِّزُهُم
نَختارُهُمwe choose them حَسَباًfor noble standing مِنّاfrom among us وَأَحلاماand sound judgment
نَختارُهُم حَسَباً مِنّا وَأَحلاما
Each year we equip a delegation of our own,
Choosing them from among us for noble standing and sound judgment.
كانواthey were كَوَفدِlike the delegation of بَنيthe sons of عادٍ‘Ad أَضَلَّهُمُled them astray
كانوا كَوَفدِ بَني عادٍ أَضَلَّهُمُ
قَيلٌQayl فَأَتبَعَthen he made follow عاماًone year مِنهُمُof theirs عاماanother year
قَيلٌ فَأَتبَعَ عاماً مِنهُمُ عاما
They were like the delegation of the sons of ‘Ad, led astray by
Qayl, who let one year of theirs follow another.
عادواthey returned فَلَمbut did not يَجِدواthey find فيin دارِthe land of قَومِهِمُtheir people
عادوا فَلَم يَجِدوا في دارِ قَومِهِمُ
إِلاّexcept مَغانِيَهُمtheir dwellings قَفراًdesolate وَأرماماand decaying remains
إِلاّ مَغانِيَهُم قَفراً وَأرماما
They returned, but found nothing in their people's land
Except their desolate dwellings and decaying remains.
