Receiving glad tidings has blessed you, my heart, and revived you.

A peerless one greeted you with precious literary works—

marvels revealed by the marvel of his age.

So through them your scent grew sweet, O fragrant one of the garden.

O giver of them, you planted affection in my heart,

though it has long been drawn to your eminence.

Whenever the age points toward its blade’s lustre,

then it is you I mean by that gesture—you.

Give me no gifts; meeting you is my highest hope.

And is there any gift in all time save meeting you?

And you followed my offering with your rare gems, whose

due praise, O my tongue, has left you helpless.
