منار العلم والفضل الرضى

Learning was slain by the death of Abu Ali,

the esteemed beacon of learning and virtue.

سأبكى بعده سراً وجهراً

سأبكى بعده سراً وجهراً

كما يبكى الولى على الولى

كما يبكى الولى على الولى

After his passing, I shall weep in secret and openly,

as a friend weeps for a friend.

ولو لم أبكه حزناً ووجداً

ولو لم أبكه حزناً ووجداً

إذاً ما كنت بالرجل الوفى

إذاً ما كنت بالرجل الوفى

And if I did not weep for him in sorrow and longing,

then I would not be a faithful man.

إذا قلب خلا من حب ميت

إذا قلب خلا من حب ميت

فقلبي ليس عنه بالخلى

فقلبي ليس عنه بالخلى

If a heart is empty of love for one who has died,

yet my heart is not empty of love for him.
