دع التشاغل بالدنيا وزينتها
واعلمand know بأنكthat you عنهاfrom it رائحdeparting in the evening غاديsetting out in the morning
واعلم بأنك عنها رائح غادي
Leave off preoccupation with this world and its adornment,
Leave behind the preoccupations of this world and its adornments,
And know that you will depart from it, at evening or morning.
And know that you are departing from it a traveler.
درياقهاits antidote عللailments إقبالهاits favor قللscant amounts
درياقها علل إقبالها قلل
يومa day سرورٌjoy وأعوامand years بأنكادwith miseries
يوم سرورٌ وأعوام بأنكاد
Its antidote is sickness; its favor is scant:
Its prosperity does not last, its reverses do not persist,
A day of joy, and years of misery.
One day joy, and years in peril.
دامhas persisted الغرورdelusion بهاby it منon the part of كلevery ذيone possessing فشلٍweak resolve
دام الغرور بها من كل ذي فشلٍ
وقولهاand its message لذويto those possessing اللبthe intellect الذكيkeen باديevident
وقولها لذوي اللب الذكي بادي
Every weak-willed person remains deluded by it,
Deceit in it remains with every failure,
And its message is plain to those of keen intellect.
And its words to the wise seem evident.
دناءةbaseness النفسof the soul تهويcasts down فيinto مصارعهاits places of ruin
دناءة النفس تهوي في مصارعها
منwhoever كانwas منهمكاًengrossed فيin غيهhis waywardness غاديgoing forth
من كان منهمكاً في غيه غادي
Baseness of soul casts into its places of ruin
The baseness of the soul plunges into its battles,
Whoever goes forth engrossed in his waywardness.
When one is immersed in its confusion a traveler.
دبتcrept عقاربscorpions سوءthe evil of الذنبsin لاسعةًstinging
دبت عقارب سوء الذنب لاسعةً
والموتand death حاديهits drover فيin أعمارناour lifespans حاديa drover
والموت حاديه في أعمارنا حادي
The scorpions of sin's evil have crept forth, stinging,
The needles of the evil of sins wound,
And death, its drover, drives on through our lives.
And death guides us in our lives a guide.
دفائنburied stores الخبثof malice فيin الأحشاءthe entrails كامنةhidden
دفائن الخبث في الأحشاء كامنة
وفعلهاand their effect بينbetween منقوصٍdiminished ومزدادand increased
وفعلها بين منقوصٍ ومزداد
Buried stores of malice lie hidden in the entrails,
The germs of evil lie dormant in the organs,
And their effect varies between decrease and increase.
And their deeds vary between deficient and excessive.
دقتbecame subtle غوامضthe mysteries of آفاتthe afflictions of النفوسsouls ففيso in
دقت غوامض آفات النفوس ففي
علاجهاtheir treatment جدearnestness إصدارsending out وإيرادand bringing in
علاجها جد إصدار وإيراد
The mysteries of souls' afflictions are subtle; so in
The riddles of the ills of souls have become subtle,
Their treatment there is earnest sending out and bringing in.
So be diligent in treating and resolving them.
دأبthe striving of المجدينthe diligent فيin إصلاحهاreforming them أبداًalways
دأب المجدين في إصلاحها أبداً
منamong البواعثthe spurs فيin جدearnestness وإجهادand exertion
من البواعث في جد وإجهاد
The diligent's ceaseless striving to reform them
The duty of the righteous is always to reform them
Is among the spurs to earnestness and exertion.
With motives of diligence and effort.
دامتendured عزائمهمtheir resolves رامواthey sought تنصلهمtheir extrication
دامت عزائمهم راموا تنصلهم
منfrom كلall ماthat which يتركleaves اللبthe mind النقيpure صاديthirsting
من كل ما يترك اللب النقي صادي
Their resolve endured; they sought to free themselves
Their determination remained, they wanted to free themselves
From all that leaves the pure mind thirsting.
From all that leaves the pure mind clear.
