سلامpeace علىupon منthe one whom لمdid not أزلI cease ذاكراremembering لهof him
بقلبيin my heart وإنand even if كلتgrew weary منfrom المدحpraise ألسنtongues
Peace upon him whom I have never ceased remembering—
Peace be upon the one whom I have never ceased remembering
within my heart, though tongues grow weary from praising him.
In my heart, even if tongues grow weary of praise.
فماfor not كانwas فيin ظنيmy expectation تباعدgrowing distant مثلهone like him
وأمرand the affair الهوىlove بينbetween المحبينthe lovers متقنfirmly established
Never did I imagine one like him would keep so far away,
For I did not expect one like him to grow distant,
when love’s compact between lovers is firmly wrought.
While the bond of love between lovers is firm.
فلوfor if كانwere منthe one whom أهوىI love مسيئاdoing wrong عذرتهI would have excused him
ولكنهbut he بينamong الخلايقpeople محسنa doer of good
Had the one I love done wrong, I would have pardoned him;
For had the one I love done wrong, I would have excused him,
but among all creation, he is a doer of good.
But among people, he is a doer of good.
