O two ruined campsites of Wahb, may moist dew water

The hills’ watercourse, where the hollow curves around you both.

And O hill of the two encampments, hail to you, hill,

Despite your distance from me—and may thunder resound over you.

For you are the one whose soil heals my heart,

Because my beloved was there long ago; yet longing sickens it.

    وَإِن تَسكُني نَجداً فَيا حَبَّذا نَجدُ

    So if you leave Najd, I shall leave it and everyone in it;

And if you dwell in Najd, then oh, how lovely Najd is!

I have finished with the fair women, save that a love

For Dhalfāʾ I have not yet brought to an end.

And even if the promised day has brought our meeting nearer,

Do not reproach me for saying, ‘When is the promised meeting?’
