ما كُنتُ أَخشى الأَسعَدِيَّ عَلى الصَبا

وَلَكِنَّهُ بِالزِفرِ جَلدٌ مُعاوِدُ

وَلَكِنَّهُ بِالزِفرِ جَلدٌ مُعاوِدُ

I did not fear al-Asʿadī in youthful dalliance,

I did not fear misfortune in my youth,

but in intercourse he is hardy and persistent.

But it persists and returns with each sigh.
