ياO قَيسُQays أَرسِلrelease أَسيراًa captive مِنfrom بَنيthe sons of جُشَمٍJusham
يا قَيسُ أَرسِل أَسيراً مِن بَني جُشَمٍ
إِنّيindeed I بِكُلِّfor all الَّذيthat تَأتيyou bring بِهِwith it جازيone who repays
إِنّي بِكُلِّ الَّذي تَأتي بِهِ جازي
O Qays, release a captive of Banu Jusham.
O Qays, release a captive from Banu Jusham.
I shall repay you for everything you do.
I shall repay you for whatever you do.
لاdo not تَأَمَنِfeel safe from الدَهرَtime أَنlest تَشجيchoke بِغُصَّتِهِon its bitterness
لا تَأَمَنِ الدَهرَ أَن تَشجي بِغُصَّتِهِ
فَاِختَرso choose لِنَفسِكَfor yourself إِحماديmy praise وَإِعزازيand my esteem
فَاِختَر لِنَفسِكَ إِحمادي وَإِعزازي
Do not trust Fortune, lest its choking morsel lodge in your throat.
Do not feel safe from time, lest you choke on its bitterness.
So choose for yourself my praise of you and the honor I will show you.
So choose for yourself my praise and esteem.
فَاِفكُكso unbind أَخاO kinsman of مِنقَرٍMinqar عَنهُfrom him وَقُلand say حَسَناًsomething kind
فَاِفكُك أَخا مِنقَرٍ عَنهُ وَقُل حَسَناً
فيماregarding what سُئِلتَyou were asked وَعَقِّبهُand follow it up بِإِنجازِwith fulfillment
فيما سُئِلتَ وَعَقِّبهُ بِإِنجازِ
Then ransom a man of Minqar in exchange for him, and speak graciously
So, kinsman of Minqar, set him free and speak kindly
about what you have been asked, and follow that with fulfillment.
In answer to what was asked of you, and follow your words with fulfillment.
