علماً وحلماً وآباء وأجدادا
O master who surpassed all who walk on foot,
O lord, one who walks with dignity
in knowledge and forbearance, in fathers and forefathers.
Of knowledge, wisdom, fathers and forefathers

بالخلف والمطل والتسويف إبعادا
What prompted you to make a promise that you turn,
What led you to a promise, which you make
through breach, delay, and postponement, into a rebuff?
Put off, prolonged, and procrastinated

فيثمر المطل بعد الود أحقادا
Do not hasten to make a promise and then break it,
Do not hasten with a promise, then break it
lest delay yield grudges where affection once was.
For delay after affection breeds hatred

وليس يجدى إذا لم يلق حصادا
For a promise is a seed; gentle speech is its seedbed,
A promise is a seed of gentle speech
and it avails nothing if it finds no harvest.
It is no use if it does not find harvest
