نفسى مقرًّا لها في العالم الثانى

Seventy years have indeed passed, yet my soul has not found

A resting place for itself in the world beyond.

فرضان إما فناء والبناء له

فرضان إما فناء والبناء له

لغو وإمَّا بقاء شاءه البانى

لغو وإمَّا بقاء شاءه البانى

Two hypotheses: either annihilation, making creation

Futile; or survival, willed by the Builder.

أما وأجسامنا ليست سوى صور

أما وأجسامنا ليست سوى صور

مشكَّلات بأشكال وألوان

مشكَّلات بأشكال وألوان

Now, our bodies are nothing but forms,

Fashioned in shapes and colors:

كهاربٌ حرّكتها النفس فانتظمت

كهاربٌ حرّكتها النفس فانتظمت

في شكل مستودع للنفس جثمانى

في شكل مستودع للنفس جثمانى

Electrons, set in motion by the soul, then arranged themselves

In the form of a bodily vessel for the soul,

حتى إذا تمَّ في الدنيا تطوُّرُها

حتى إذا تمَّ في الدنيا تطوُّرُها

طارت إلى منزل في الكون روحانى

طارت إلى منزل في الكون روحانى

Until, when its evolution in this world was complete,

It flew to a spiritual dwelling in the universe.

وللتطوّر أحكام مقرّرة

وللتطوّر أحكام مقرّرة

والنفس والجسم في الأحكام سيان

والنفس والجسم في الأحكام سيان

And evolution has its established laws,

And soul and body are alike under those laws.

لا بُدَّ للعلم من يومٍ يفوز بما

لا بُدَّ للعلم من يومٍ يفوز بما

يُبيَّن الحق فيه خير تبيان

يُبيَّن الحق فيه خير تبيان

Science must one day attain the means

By which the truth is explained with the utmost clarity.
