لمdid not يَرضَaccept إلاexcept بالكريمةwith the noble mare مَركباًas a mount
لم يَرضَ إلا بالكريمة مَركباً
ولربماand often امتنعتwas unattainable عليهfor him أتانُa she-ass
ولربما امتنعت عليه أتانُ
He would accept only a noble mare as a mount,
He would not settle for anything but the best of rides
Yet often a she-ass was beyond his reach.
And sometimes even a donkey would refuse him
