1. ثوروا على الباغي الذليل

    واحموا تعاليم الرسول

    Rise up against the abject oppressor,

    And protect the teachings of the Messenger.

  2. وابغوا الحياة كريمة

    في ظل دستور نبيل

    And seek a dignified life

    In the shade of a noble constitution.

  3. وتمردوا فالحر يأبى

    أن يساوي بالذليل

    And rebel, for the free man refuses

    To be equated with the abject.

  4. والموت أهون عند نفس

    الحر من حكم الدخيل

    And death is easier for the soul

    Of the free man than an outsider's rule.

  5. بغداد يا دار الرجولة

    والبطولة والعقول

    Baghdad, O home of manliness,

    And heroism and intellect!

  6. بغداد يا أم الحياة

    وربة المجد الأثيل

    Baghdad, O mother of life,

    And mistress of deep-rooted glory!

  7. هزي قلاع الظالمين

    السالكين خطى المغول

    Shake the fortresses of the oppressors,

    Who follow in the Mongols' footsteps,

  8. المستبدين الطغاة

    الحاكمين بلا أصول

    The despots, the tyrants,

    Who rule without principles,

  9. الحاقدين على معاني

    الخير والخلق الجميل

    Who harbor hatred for the ideals

    Of goodness and noble character.
