    O Messenger of glory, virtue, goodness, and guidance,

    Your name begins every line of glory.

    سمعت به قلبي يقول محمدا

    And I contemplate your beautiful qualities;

    Through this I heard my heart say, "Muhammad."

    فيهتاجه الشوق الذي جاوز المدى

    And it trembles at the remembrance with longing and burning pain;

    Then longing beyond all bounds stirs it.

    يضوع به قلبي أريجا موردا

    And an abundant outpouring of passion fills it;

    Through it my heart gives off a rosy fragrance.

    And on a day when Quraysh summoned its whole host,

    And displayed defiance of the plain truth,

    And marched, seething with the fire of unbelief, while its hatred

    Plunged into blatant aggression and obstinacy,

    To destroy the faith whose light shone

    With peace, faith, and firmly established justice.

    Can an unbeliever's breath extinguish God's light?

    Exalted is He who is peerless in majesty.

    When "God is greatest" thundered in battle,

    The voices faltered before that call.

    غرور أبي جهل كهر تأسدا

    There the two hosts met: a host led

    By Abu Jahl's arrogance, like a cat pretending to be a lion;

    وحادية بالآيات في الصبر قد حدا

    And a host made awe-inspiring by his guidance;

    And a guide urged it onward in patience with the verses.

    And the best of creation bared his forearm for self-sacrifice,

    And brandished the Indian-forged sword above the tyrants' heads.

    And Gabriel, on the nearby horizon, proclaimed God's greatness,

    To cast weakness and terror into the enemies' souls.

    And soon Quraysh fled with its whole host,

    And abandoned Abu Jahl there, stretched out.

    جريحة كبر قد طغى فتبددا

    Its banners lowered, its bonds broken,

    Wounded in its pride, once rampant, now shattered;

    The weight of humiliation and ambition bowed it down,

    And captives shamed it, for whom it sought ransom.

    And Abu Jahl's nose wallowed in the dust,

    And the feet of the barefoot trampled it for his transgression.

    And whoever opposed the All-Merciful saw his efforts fail,

    And his endeavors and toils were wasted in vain.

    And how can injustice stand against a sacred law

    That rose above all laws in purpose?

    Heavenly in its aims, through its way it made equal

    All the world's children, subject and master alike.

    فلا أبيضا حابت لتبخس أسودا

    And abolished distinctions of race and color among humankind;

    So it favored no white person at a black person's expense,

    Nor favored one people to belittle others,

    Nor denied a right or refused to acknowledge a kindness.

    It seeks guidance for people; their habit is

    To oppose whoever calls to goodness and guidance.

    هو البغي لكن بالأسامي تجددا

    And the strife we see is nothing new;

    It is oppression, but renewed under different names.

    And it has become factions, with strife among them,

    Yet against religion they appear as one united rank.

    O Messenger of guidance, the place of your night journey has become threatened,

    And Jerusalem is on the verge of being Judaized.

    Yet my people do not muster, for their right,

    Armies to keep that right from being lost.

    Reveal, O history, the face of Muhammad,

    So those deliberately blind to him may see it.

    When the world rises to recount its glories,

    Our radiant history began with Badr.

    And Badr's echo will keep ringing across our horizon,

    A cry repeated in the ear of time.

    Lands made mighty by Muhammad's swords—

    What excuse have they for not honoring Muhammad?

    أرجي بها خيرا لدى موقفي غدا

    O Messenger of glory, I stand in your praise;

    Through it I hope for good when I stand tomorrow.

    My tongue has spoken neither forbidden words nor whims,

    And my poetry has contained no discredited words.

    Nor have I changed colors like those who changed,

    And strayed and dodged, basely seeking prey.

    And of lawful poetry, enough for me are the poems

    I have uttered, which will remain when death enfolds me.

    And whoever's concern in life is his food,

    Then death is better for him than his troubled life.

    في ظل حكم رسول الله أو عمر

    They do not consider what their forebears were

    In the shade of the rule of God's Messenger or Umar;

    أيام كانوا لهذا الكون كالقمر

    Days when they lived and God was their goal;

    Days when they were like the moon to this universe;

    Days when they lived and fortune's star was radiant,

    Between its gathered and its scattered parts.

    God is greatest! The people have cast off

    The garment of modesty and have become like donkeys today.

    So our age today, beside the Messenger's age, has become

    As different as coal is from pearls.

    Where is the prayer that the Messenger brought,

    As an obligation upon people, at home and while traveling?
