عَلى رُؤوسِهِمُ حُمّاضُ مَحنِيّةٍ

عَلى رُؤوسِهِمُ حُمّاضُ مَحنِيّةٍ

وَفي صُدورِهِمُ جَمرُ الغَضا يَقِدُ

وَفي صُدورِهِمُ جَمرُ الغَضا يَقِدُ

Upon their heads is the sorrel of Maḥniyya;

Upon their heads, doves bow in agony

and in their breasts the embers of ghada wood blaze.

Within their chests, the embers of wrath blaze
