أَبلِغاyou two, convey قَومَناour people جُذاماًJudham وَلَخماًand Lakhm
قَولَthe words of مَنone who عِزُّهُمtheir glory إِلَيهِto him حَبيبُdear
You two, convey to our people, Judham and Lakhm,
Tell our tribe, the diseased and the maimed,
The words of one to whom their glory is dear.
The words of he whose beloved is their honor:
كانَwere آباؤُكُمyour forefathers إِذاwhen الناسُthe people حَربٌat war
وَهُمُand they الأَكثَرونَthe most numerous كانَthere were الحُروبُthe wars
Your forefathers lived when the people were at war;
Your fathers, when people made war
And they were the most numerous; wars raged.
And they were the more numerous, wars
مَنَعواthey defended الثَغرَةَthe frontier gap الَّتيthat بَينَbetween حمصٍHoms
وَالكَهاتَينِand al-Kahatayn لَيسَis not فيهاin it غَريبُa stranger
They defended the frontier gap between Homs
They prevented the gap between Homs
And al-Kahatayn; no stranger was there.
And the two mills, no stranger within.
