By my life, the Imam has raced toward a goal

Of excellence toward whose like no racer has ever raced.

Through it he won glory and renown in life,

And through it left enduring praise, and honor upon honor.

For no mosque, after the three, is its equal,

Even if you roamed the breadth of the earth, region after region.

And it was favored with the fairest pulpit, after the pulpit

In Tayba, built beside the grave.

When the Imam looks out over the people from atop it,

He towers, tall of frame, fair as the full moon.

When he speaks, he leaves nothing more to say, nor does he stop

For lack of words, nor turn his tongue to foul speech.

He directs his tongue in speech as he chooses,

And looks about him with a falcon's gaze.

And if urged to generosity, his face lights up,

And he gives freely, his bounty neither scant nor meager.
