دَعاsummoned بِالبَقَّةِat al-Baqqah الأَمناءَthe trusted men يَوماًone day
دَعا بِالبَقَّةِ الأَمناءَ يَوماً
جذيمَةُJadhimah يَنتَحيseeking عَصَباًstriped cloth ثَميناcostly
جذيمَةُ يَنتَحي عَصَباً ثَمينا
One day at al-Baqqah, he summoned the trusted men—
One day Judaima called the loyal
Jadhimah, seeking costly striped cloth.
To avoid a precious tribe
فَطاوَعَso he obeyed نَفسَهُhis own self وَعَصىand he disobeyed قَصيراًQasir
فَطاوَعَ نَفسَهُ وَعَصى قَصيراً
وَكانَand he was يَقولُsaying لَوif only نَفَعَit had availed اليَقيناthe certain truth
وَكانَ يَقولُ لَو نَفَعَ اليَقينا
So he obeyed himself and disobeyed Qasir,
He obeyed himself and disobeyed the short one
Who had spoken certain truth—if only it had availed.
And he used to say, if only certainty was beneficial
