قالتshe spoke مخافةَfor fear of بينناour parting وبكتْand she wept بهِover it
قالت مخافةَ بيننا وبكتْ بهِ
فالبَيْنُfor parting مبعوثٌsent علىupon المتخوّفِthe fearful one
فالبَيْنُ مبعوثٌ على المتخوّفِ
She spoke for fear of our parting, and wept over it;
She said there was fear between us and cried because of it
For parting is sent upon the one who fears it.
For separation is sent upon the anxious one
لوif ماتَdied شيءٌanything منfrom مخافةِfear of فُرقةٍparting
لو ماتَ شيءٌ من مخافةِ فُرقةٍ
لأماتَنيwould have killed me للبينof parting طولُduration تخوفيmy fear
لأماتَني للبين طولُ تخوفي
If anything could die from fear of parting,
If nothing died of the fear of parting
My prolonged fear of parting would have killed me.
My long anxiety over separation would kill me
ملأfilled الهوىlove قلبيmy heart فضِقتُand I felt overwhelmed بحملهby bearing it
ملأ الهوى قلبي فضِقتُ بحمله
حتىuntil نطقتُI spoke بهof it بغيرِwithout تكلّفِaffectation
حتى نطقتُ به بغيرِ تكلّفِ
Love filled my heart, and I was overwhelmed by its burden,
Passion filled my heart, so I struggled under its burden
Until I spoke of it without affectation.
