بلطيف القد أغيد

بلطيف القد أغيد

Say to whoever denied my passion

Tell whoever denies my existence,

for a supple one of delicate stature:

With delicate waist I sing,

إن يكن هندي أصل

إن يكن هندي أصل

فهو من وصف المهند

فهو من وصف المهند

If he is Indian by origin,

If Indian is his origin,

then he has the qualities of an Indian-steel sword.

Then he is of the description of ebony,

وهو حظي من زماني

وهو حظي من زماني

فلهذا صار أسود

فلهذا صار أسود

And he is the lot my times have given me,

And he is my fortune in my time,

so that is why he turned black.

Thus he has become black.
