بأبي أفدي ثراك وبي
O haunts of pleasure and rapture,
O singers of joy and delight
I ransom your soil with my father and myself.
By my father I ransom your affliction and mine

May the clouds never pass it by, nor
Neither clouds overshadow it, nor
The clouds’ pouring rain turn aside from it.
Does rain from clouds deviate it

How lovely the home where I once knew
Blessed is the house where I experienced
Every one with honeyed, dusky lips and pearly teeth!
All sweet gathered honeycombs

There, before our parting, it was
Where before our separation
A celestial sphere coursing over shooting stars.
It was a sphere flowing with falling stars

وأضاعوا حرمة الأدب
They slapped me—may I never lose them—
They rebuked me, may I not lose them
And disregarded the sanctity of good manners.
And violated the sanctity of manners

And referred me to the tail.

Had something of the itch of scabies.
Resembled the itch of scabies
