أَبْلِغْTell حَنِيفَةَHanifa أَنَّthat أَوَّلَthe beginning of سَبْقِهِمْtheir lead
ذَهَبُواthey went عَلَىat مَهَلٍleisure فَلَمَّاand not yet يُدْرَكُواthey are overtaken
Tell Hanifa that, when they first took the lead,
Tell Hanifa that the first of their race
they went at leisure, yet have not been overtaken.
Went slowly onwards, so they were out-paced,
نَالُواthey reached السَّمَاءَthe sky فَأَمْسَكُواand they grasped بِعِمَادِهَاonto its pillar
حَتَّىuntil إِذَاwhen كَانُواthey were هُنَاكَthere اسْتَمْسَكُواthey held fast
They reached the sky and grasped its pillar,
They reached the sky and took hold of its pillar,
until, once they were there, they held fast.
Until when there, they clung and embraced.
وإِذَاand when دَعَوْتَyou called بَنيِthe sons of حَنِيفَةَHanifa رَاغِباًhopeful
أَوْor رَاهِباًfearful جَاءُواthey came إلَيْكَto you فَأَوْشَكُواand they hastened
And when you call the sons of Hanifa in hope,
And if you call the sons of Hanifa eagerly
or in fear, they come to you in haste.
Or piously, they will come to you and hasten.
