O Harith son of Ka‘b—then there is nothing after him,

Nor before him, save error that leads astray.

O Harith son of Ka‘b, ill was what your fortune sought

For you, when you clung to Ibn Muqbil’s rein.

O Harith son of Ka‘b, you are only a hedgehog

On a path, taking refuge in the worst of shelters.
