هَلْquestion marker كُنْتُI was إِلاَّbut مَجِنّاًa shield تَتَّقُونَyou protect yourselves بِهِwith it
هَلْ كُنْتُ إِلاَّ مَجِنّاً تَتَّقُونَ بِهِ
قَدْindeed لاَحَbecame visible فيin عِرْضِthe honor مَنْwhoever باذَأَكُمْreviled you عَلَبِيthe scars I left
قَدْ لاَحَ في عِرْضِ مَنْ باذَأَكُمْ عَلَبِي
Was I anything but a shield with which you protected yourselves?
Was I not but a madman you fear
Indeed, the scars I left were plain upon the honor of whoever reviled you.
