    Ramadan has come to us with all-embracing goodness.

    It is the All-Merciful's gift in our world.

    It is a breath of grace from your Lord to the world.

    You find existence adorned when it arrives.

    The best of months: within it is the finest night,

    in which God sent down the Quran.

    In it, the gates of the Gardens have opened

    in longing, and our Lord has closed the fires.

    And you see souls whose character has grown pure,

    while goodness fills our earth and our sky.

    رحـمـاتُ ربـى أنـزلـت تغشانا

    A month of blessings has come to shade us;

    my Lord's mercies have been sent down to enfold us.

    أقـوالُـه جـاءتْ لـنـا تـبـيانا

    Hear God's word—exalted be His majesty;

    His words have come to us as clarification.

    Fasting has been prescribed for you, that you may

    one day attain reverence for Us through fasting.

    And God, in the verses on fasting, shows us

    that He will answer our prayer.

    If you are asked, O Muhammad, who I am,

    then I am the Near One; I answer whoever calls upon Us.

    “Fasting is half of patience,” our beloved said,

    and this patience makes up half of faith.

    “Fasting is a shield” for whoever fasts, and a safeguard

    against everything that angers the Requiter.

    Whoever fasts this month, seeking its reward

    with God, and spends its nights in prayer with faith,

    God forgives all his sins.

    Glory be to my Lord, merciful and all-merciful.

    Moreover, everyone who has fasted it rejoices

    in this world and on the day of meeting Us.

    سـبـعـيـنَ ضـعـفاً ربُنا أعطانا

    In it, the reward of our deeds is multiplied;

    our Lord has given us seventyfold.

    God has made the reward of a voluntary act within it

    like that of an obligatory duty outside Ramadan.

    Fasting is Mine, and I am the One who rewards it.

    Glory be to my Lord, the Giver, the Bountiful.

    صـامـوا وقـاموا أرغموا الشيطانا

    For indeed they obeyed and heeded Our command;

    they fasted and stood in prayer, humbling Satan.

    تـركـوا الـحلالَ وكابدوا الحرمانا

    They forsook the self's desires to please Us;

    they left what was lawful and endured deprivation.

    I have prepared a garden with Me for those who fast,

    where repose mingles with sweet basil.

    مـن أجـلِـهـم سـمـيـتُه الريانا

    And I have reserved for them there a single gate;

    for their sake I named it al-Rayyan.

    رأوا الـنـعـيـمَ بـه هـنا ألوانا

    Once they enter it, it is closed behind them;

    here within it, they behold bliss in many forms.

    They thirsted; now they drink their fill through Our kindness.

    Thus goodness is repaid with goodness.

    So eat with enjoyment and drink, for what you sent ahead

    in voluntary fasting and during Ramadan.

    Fasting comes with the Book so that both may intercede:

    O our Lord, accept our plea to You.

     قـرأوا الـكـتاب وأسهروا الأجفانا

    Fasting kept them from consuming what they craved;

    they read the Book and kept their eyelids wakeful.

    فـازوا هـنـالـك جاوروا الرحمن

    Both have their intercession accepted through His grace and generosity;

    there they triumph, dwelling beside the All-Merciful.

     ويـلٌ لـهـم إذْ حـالـفوا الشيطانا

    Disgraced are the sinners who broke the fast, for what they committed;

    woe to them, for they allied themselves with Satan.

    Their remorse will last long when they come

    and see the reward of those who fast with their own eyes.

    The cries of those who broke the fast rise when they

    are cast in humiliation into my Lord's Fire.

    لِـمَ أنـتَ تـحـشـرنا هنا عُميانا

    O our Lord, this was not our condition;

    why do You gather us here blind?

    والـيـومَ نـنـسـى كلَّ من ينسانا

    Then He says: My reminder came to you, but you forgot it;

    and today We forget everyone who forgets Us.

    عـدلُ الإلـهِ لـدى الـخـلائقِ بانا

    Thus the recompense for an evil deed is its like;

    God's justice has become clear before all creatures.

    اللهُ بـالـفـضـل الـعـظيم حبانا

    And the reward of goodness is multiplied;

    God has favored us with immense bounty.

    So rejoice in the month of fasting and act righteously,

    before you come in fear and thirst.

    واحـفـظْ عـيـونَك واحفظِ الآذانا

    And guard your tongue; speak no falsehood with it;

    guard your eyes and guard your ears.

    Never speak in backbiting; never look

    upon nakedness; rise and listen to the Quran.

    And wear the robes of honor through obedience,

    before you come, my brother, naked.

    And shed tears of fear of the Lord of all creation,

    so that you may find safety at the Reckoning.

    يـا رب نـرجـو مـن لدنك حنانا

    O Lord, guide us to the best worship;

    O Lord, we hope for tenderness from You.

    واغـفـرْ لـنـا يـا ربـنا ما كانا

    And erase our errors, O Lord of all creation;

    forgive us, O our Lord, for what has passed.

    O Lord, accept Your servants' fasting,

    and their prayers as well, and make the balance heavy.

    O Lord, by Your grace make them tomorrow

    brothers upon couches, my Master.

    لا يـعـرفـون هـنـالِك الأحزانا

    And on beds in the Gardens they sit;

    they know no sorrows there.

    They know no rancor among themselves,

    for You, our God, have erased all grudges.

    بـكَ أنـتَ ربـى نـسـتعيد قوانا

    O Lord, calamities have hemmed us in;

    through You alone, my Lord, we regain our strength.

    يـا رب فـامـحُ بـفضلك الهجرانا

    The fire of broken ties has burned the bonds between us;

    O Lord, by Your grace erase estrangement.

    يـا رب فـاكـشفْ عنهمو الخذلانا

    O Lord, our community is under Your watchful eye, my Master;

    O Lord, deliver them from abandonment.

    يـا رب فـرجْ هـمَـنـا وأسـانا

    O Lord, grant us victory over our enemies;

    O Lord, relieve our worry and sorrow.
