لا تُشعِرَنَّ النَفسَ يَأساً فَإِنَّما

لا تُشعِرَنَّ النَفسَ يَأساً فَإِنَّما

يَعيشُ بِجَدٍّ حازِمٌ وَبَليدُ

يَعيشُ بِجَدٍّ حازِمٌ وَبَليدُ

Never let the soul feel despair—for indeed

Do not fill your soul with despair, for it is only

both the resolute and the dull-witted live by fortune.

by fortune that the prudent and the dull-witted live.

وَلا تَطمَعَن في مالِ جارٍ لِقُربِهِ

وَلا تَطمَعَن في مالِ جارٍ لِقُربِهِ

فَكُلُّ قَريبٍ لا يُنالُ بَعيدُ

فَكُلُّ قَريبٍ لا يُنالُ بَعيدُ

And do not covet a neighbor’s wealth merely because he is near;

And do not covet a neighbor’s wealth because he is near,

for anything near but unattainable is far away.

for whatever is near yet unattainable is far away.

وَفَوِّض إِلى اللَهِ الأُمورَ فَإِنَّما

وَفَوِّض إِلى اللَهِ الأُمورَ فَإِنَّما

تَروحُ بِأَرزاقٍ عَلَيكِ جُدودُ

تَروحُ بِأَرزاقٍ عَلَيكِ جُدودُ

Entrust all affairs to God—for indeed

And entrust affairs to God, for it is only

hosts go forth bearing provisions allotted to you.

good fortunes that come to you bearing sustenance.
