1. The vilest men, the sons of Qushayr, say:

“All your life, you never forget Ali.”

  2. I said to them: How could I abandon

Among deeds, what is enjoined upon me?

  3. I love Muhammad with an intense love,

And Abbas, Hamza, and the designated successor,

  4. And Ja'far—for Ja'far is the finest scion,

A martyr in Paradise's gardens, an emigrant.

  5. Nor do I forget what Husayn endured,

Nor is Hasan the least dear of them to me.

  6. The Prophet's cousins and his closest kin

Are the dearest of all people to me.

  7. If loving them is right guidance, I attain it;

And in them I have an example, if it is error.

  8. How much right guidance I have attained, and what glory I have won,

Beneath which the crowns of the Pleiades fall short.

  9. They are worthy of sincere goodwill from me,

And of my affection as long as I live.

  10. A love I was granted when

The millstone of Islam began turning—a love without equal.

  11. I love them out of love for God, until

I come, when resurrected, still holding to my love.

  12. I saw that God, the Creator of all things,

Guided them and chose a prophet from among them.

  13. And He singled out no one but them for it:

May what He chose for them be pleasant and wholesome.

  14. They aided the Messenger of God until

His cause became firmly established and strong.

  15. And peoples who answered God out of fear

Of Him, assigning Him no equal:

  16. Among them are Muzaynah and the sons of Ghifar,

And Aslam—doubled alongside him with Baliy.

  17. They lead the marked steeds,

With full coats of mail upon them—and the riding beasts too.
