Though drink grow scarce, I am not one to break my fast
I will not, even if drink is scarce, break my fast
with bādhāq wine, the kind in which the marketplace trades.
with bādhaq wine of the kind sold in the market.
I shall leave whatever I fear may do me harm,
I will leave what I fear may harm me,
and drink what bees and she-camels store up—
and drink of what the bees and she-camels gather:
two drinks that bring me no abhorrence from God,
two drinks for which there is no hatred from God
nor any skin-splitting stroke of the lash.
toward me, nor any lacerating blow of the whip.
