1. If you are intent upon a purpose you desire,

nothing can equal resolve and trust in God.

  2. Put your trust in Him, and entrust your affair to God; for what

is destined will come to you, though you leave it be.

  3. Do not suppose that journeying brings one nearer to death

than ease in a settled home amid indulgence.

  4. And do not hold me back from a road I wish to take

because of your conjecture; conjecture deceives the rational mind.

  5. For I shall meet whatever God has decreed that I

shall meet—so do not treat knowledge as ignorance.

  6. For you do not know, however fearful you may be

for me, whether what you fear lies after me or before me.

  7. How many a wary, vigilant man have you seen

struck down, when death found him among his family.
