1. O you through whose slaying Time brought calamity,

    There had indeed been a matter between you and them.

  2. They claimed they had an excuse for your slaying.

    They lied—by your grave, they have no excuse.

  3. O grave of our lord, whose generosity lies buried,

    May God bless you, O grave.

  4. It does no harm to a grave where you dwell

    That rain never passes over its soil.

  5. So its rain shall surely match your hand's generosity,

    And the rocks shall surely sprout leaves beside you.

  6. And when you sleep, you are alert;

    And when you wake, your face is the full moon.

  7. And when you grow angry, shattered in fear

    Of you are the mountains, and terror itself fears you.

  8. O dweller in the grave, peace be upon

    The one whom the grave has kept us from meeting.

  9. O you who forsook me when I came to visit him,

    Forsaking was never among your habits.

  10. By God, had I spared no one for your sake

    But killed them all, vengeance would still have eluded me.
