They try to turn me from Salim, and I turn them away;
They try to turn me away from Salim, and I turn them away.
Salim is the very skin between my eye and nose.
And Salim is the skin between the eye and the nose.
Were he parted from my keeping, I would spend the night sleepless,
And if he left my possession, I would spend the night sleepless,
while Nubhan sleeps, heedless of the sorrow I bear.
While Nabhan sleeps, heedless of the grief I bear.
O Abu Thabit, you have matched the masters of sound judgment;
O Abu Thabit, you have shared in sound judgment with its masters;
thus your counsel is praised, and your covenant endures.
So your judgment is praiseworthy, and your pledge endures.
