O Fortune, whom my Lord...
O good fortune, whom
has favored and chosen,
my Lord has favored and chosen,
to fulfill God's purpose proceeds
in accordance with God's will proceeds
His command, obedient to your pleasure;
his command, obedient to your pleasure.
His are the decree and what is...
And for him, fate and
decreed; both have become the very foundation.
what is fated have both become a mainstay.
By Him who ennobled...
By Him who honored
Saturn with a share of your sublimity,
Kaywan with a share of your eminence,
and lent Jupiter...
and lent Jupiter
your forbearance, to wield under your guidance;
your forbearance—your guidance sets it moving—
while Mars drew a sword,
and Mars unsheathed a sword
its sheath the skulls of your foes;
whose sheath is the heads of your foes,
who clothed the sun in a robe
and clothed the sun in a robe
luminous with your radiance,
illumined by your light,
and endowed Venus with a nature
and granted Venus a form
whose fragrance is the beauty of your praise;
whose fragrance is the beauty of your praise,
then granted the scribe...
then gave the scribe of the
of the spheres a share of your keen intelligence:
spheres a share of your keen wit:
Fulfill your promise to a servant,
fulfill the promise to a servant,
my lord—long may you live—
my lord—long may you live—
a bondman yearning to rise,
a slave in bondage, seeking advancement,
who has no hope but in you.
who has nothing but hope in you.
