1. Praise be to God for what I see

    Of my destitution among these people.

  2. Time has brought me to a state

    In which a guest finds no hospitality with me.

  3. After wealth, I have been reduced to dependence

    On dogs that wear furs.

  4. The market's relishes have become my food,

    And homemade bread has become bought bread.

  5. After owning a delightful home,

    I have settled in one of the houses for rent.

  6. How, then, can I be found laughing and carefree?

    And how can I enjoy sweet sleep?

  7. Glory be to Him who knows what lies behind us,

    And beneath our hands, and beneath the earth.

  8. And praise be to God for what I see;

    And the matter is closed, and contention has ceased.
