  1. I spent the night, and my beloved was my drinking companion,

    after separation and long estrangement.

  2. I brought out an aged Qafsi wine,

    kept for ages in the riverside tavern.

  3. And whenever the cups came round to us,

    he offered me his mouth to kiss, then [perhaps sang to me].

  4. Praise be to God, who has no partner:

    Time obeyed me after defiance.
