I have come to You in hope, O Possessor of Majesty.
So relieve the distress You see in my condition.
I disobeyed You, my Master—woe to me for my ignorance!
And the disgrace of sin never crossed my mind.
To whom does the bondsman complain, except
to his Master, O Master of masters?
By my life, would that my mother had not borne me,
and that I had not angered You in the darkness of the nights.
Here I am, then, Your disobedient servant, in need
of Your mercy; so accept my plea.
For if You punish, O my Lord, You punish
justly, with torment and exemplary punishment.
And if You pardon, Your pardon has shown me [the wording is unclear],
for my deeds and my heavy burdens of sin.
