A slender one, its tip already baring a keen edge,
A slender one whose tips have revealed a keen edge,
clad in hides cut from darkness;
taking hides from darkness as its covering.
in a youth’s hand it might be taken for a long sword.
In the boy’s hand, it seems a palm frond;
It strides whenever you rouse it, bowed face-down,
it steps, bent forward, when you rouse it.
turning the inkwells’ woolen wads over and over,
It thoroughly turns over the wool of the inkwells,
and plunging the soul into anguish over them.
and sorely troubles the soul over them.
