1. I remembered you, and my heart found solace in yearning

    for you—yet from your captivity I have no deliverer.

  2. I was terrified by the torment of losing our union,

    a terror from which no refuge can be sought.

  3. My blood lies spilled upon the pathways of passion,

    and my heart is cast into the fires of longing.

  4. My streaming tears are mingled with blood,

    and that is only because my heart is hewn to pieces.

  5. I have forgotten all consolation; love is an affliction

    that bewilders even the seasoned sage.

  6. Leave me be: I did not offer up my soul to love,

    but love’s arrows pierced through the heart.

  7. The flower of all delights has withered from yearning for you,

    as though the cloudburst itself were drawn from it.

  8. The blade of sorrow flashes between my ribs,

    and my heart has no passage through its flanking bonds.

  9. I humbled myself before a beloved who is my whole heart,

    though in my abasement I find delight.

  10. Your covenant is preserved, and your right is binding;

    your decree is inevitable, and you are its executor.
