1. The stations of the people of faith among the children of this world

are the stations of those intent on the highest rank.

  2. They beheld their Lord before those who behold them,

so they sided with affirmation and cast negation aside.

  3. And they sought only the approval of God alone,

even if they angered all these people, without exception.

  4. And whoever genuinely speaks the truth,

what he says is accepted, even if he falters.

  5. For many an oppressive ruler has listened to an admonisher

speaking truth, yet could not wrong him for his admonition.

  6. The forelocks of the kings of the earth are in a Sovereign’s hand,

who governs His creation with command and prohibition.

  7. So do not please a creature by angering the Creator,

for your Lord is most worthy of fear and of shame before Him.

  8. And whoever prefers the Lord in every circumstance

will see both his hopes fulfilled, in death and in life.

  9. So, O you who truly seek God with your words,

pause, for you have favored one worldly life over another.

  10. If you make attire your righteousness and piety,

then on the Day of Gathering you will be the noblest of them in attire.
