1. The people have departed, while you remain.

    They were summoned, while you are barred and deprived.

  2. They were true to their resolve, so their pale camels set forth,

    While your longing to attain your wishes is divided.

  3. A wave from the surge of your sin has engulfed you;

    In it lies destruction, and I do not see you rise.

  4. And you are reproached for forsaking the Hijaz, then turn away,

    Without excuse, while you are to blame.

  5. Do good, and you will have left every wrongdoing behind.

    Take heed, for in His knowledge you are known.

  6. You are not among the travelers who went ahead

    Toward the Prophet, nor do I see you rise.

  7. And when a dirham appears to you in Jilliq,

    You hurry toward it, sitting down and rising.

  8. And when God wills to bring a man to his destination,

    Then the Arabs and the Romans submit to him.

  9. People are none but those who journey to their Lord,

    And the others are turmoil and cares.
