1. Longing, sleeplessness, and blood being shed.

    O mercy of God, thus I perish!

  2. I waste away, and none knows except the one

    who accepts me if he wills, or abandons me.

  3. O master, from the light of whose remembrance

    thoughts thread their way into the mind.

  4. I have taken none but you as my companion,

    and one who professes divine oneness ascribes no partners to God.

  5. You possessed me; you made me an owner—this for that.

    How wondrous! Do I own, or am I owned?

  6. May I never taste the savor of union if I do not

    hold fast to the divine decree in my love for him,

  7. or do not gird myself to pursue my hopes;

    and I seek what can be attained.
