1. The covert of companionship is a lion's lair since your departure.

    And the soul's lot is brief night halts and pale camels.

  2. I saw my heart on the morning of parting from you,

    So I said, 'Now the furnace has indeed grown hot!'

  3. Ah, O pure-hearted friend,

    Ah, O lord and chief,

  4. You charm with sweetness and awe with generosity;

    So, in this and that, you are a cup and a purse.

  5. I gave you the pure essence of my affection—an affection

    To gain which, a precious treasure counts for little.

  6. So reciprocate by replying to me; and if you fail

    To reply to me, I am already down to my last breath.
